Just to be clear, I don't expect the United States government to be Christian or act Christian. I don't even expect Christians to act like Christians.
Every person of faith or ideals falls short of living up to all the standards in which they believe.
I do, however, think it is a good idea that Christians at least understand that the basic tenants of their faith might not approve of vengeance and gloating over someone's death, even someone whom we may all agree deserved to die.
A couple of verses to consider:
Matthew 5:44 But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,
And, in case you think that was just wimpy New Testament talk.
* Ezekiel 33:11 Say to them, ‘As surely as I live, declares the Sovereign LORD, I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that they turn from their ways and live.
Then he says to his own people, "Turn, turn, turn, from your wicked ways."
* Proverbs 24:17 Do not gloat when your enemy falls;
when they stumble, do not let your heart rejoice.
Agreed!
