I want to appreciate you taking the time to write all these posts. I found your blog from a link in the Reconciliation Blog. I'm white, grew up a missionary kid in Congo and Liberia, and did Wheaton/Chicago for four years before moving to Washington. Among the black community in Washington, I really got my education in race, racism, and evangelical "racial reconciliation." I did a lot of processing of this during three years in Paris, and I now live in Kenya.

All that to say, there are a lot of reasons that I really enjoy your blog, Thanks. I can't help thinking about how you fit into a rich history of great African-American thinkers who have lived and worked in Paris.

In addition to what you've written, we could add that many white churches do demonstrate

1. Commitment to the White Community
2. Commitment to the White Family
3. Adherence to the White Work Ethic
. . . etc.

even if it isn't publicly stated (and even if reconciliation is stated as a goal of the church). At a minimum, they reinforce systems that preserve the privileges of the white way of life.

Peace,

Patrick

Todd -

Thanks so much for this series. I found out about your blog from my friend Ed Gilbreath. I was especially grateful when my mom sent me the Mr. Brown post (sigh). It was nice to be able to share your critique. I'm especially thankful for your graciousness in understanding the cultural lens of others.
Thanks again for your work in the important work of reconciliation and I'm glad to be turned on to your blog.
